He says he was going about 170 km/h on the left lane when a Skoda Superb pulled in to pass a semi truck.

His Audi clipped the rear left of the Skoda , sent the Czech VW into a guardrail, and my buddy went into a gravel pit. The Skoda has lots of damage but no one hurt. The Audi has a broken wheel, bumper, underbelly, and the entire left side was pelted with rocks. It seems like about 30,000 Euro worth of damage on the RS3 alone.

Good thing is he was trying to sell the car, it's a 2011 model and he paid $27,000 for (bought from a US Soldier who didn't know you couldn't import Euro cars under 25 years of age). Good thing because it seems the damage will be enough to total the Audi.

He will also be stuck with the fault for the accident since it happened at over 130 km/h and he rear ended the Skoda anyway. Seems to me the other driver should have been paying better attention.

At least no one was injured.

We're not all rocket scientists.

Glad to hear everyone was ok, though.

There was a 2004 RS3?

And 30k Euro, or $42k, in damages from a wheel, bumper, underbelly, and rock chips? Unless "underbelly" means "destroyed engine and transmission", I don't understand.

Funny thing is they do tell you on the incomer's briefing that Euro cars under 25 years old cannot be brought to the US. Yet they try.

Some neanderthal in my unit (and I am being kind) bought a nice, rust-free 1995 Renault 19, and he is dead set that they will let his car into the US next year "because it is in great shape". He even says he already bought DOT tires for the car! (newsflash: The vast majority of tires sold in Europe are US DOT tires too, moron!)

Shit, the car is 2011. I haven't seen the car since the crash, just talked to him on the phone.

Body repair in Germany is very expensive. A front bumper replacement and re-spray on my wife's 2000 Saab 9-5 cost our insurance almost 2000 Euro.

Let him figure it out for himself. Sometimes the only way to get a child to learn to not stick his finger in an electrical socket is to let him stick his finger in an electrical socket.

Yup. He's one of those guys that when he starts talking about cars you just slowly step away, because you can't argue with any of his mistakes (he's always right and knows everything!). Just listening him attempt to explain to me how there were four different types of horsepower almost made my brain explode.

I mentioned the 25 year old rule, he said "they make exceptions". Sure they do. For one -of-a-kind and historical cars, not for a fucking Renault 19! The he went on saying he was going to federalize the car before it even leaves Germany., etc. I just told him I was busy to go meet someone and left him talking to someone who didn't know better.

Ah ok. Didn't think there were any older RS3s. That's a pretty painful bill...shame he can't send it here.
